FIRST: The Reality…

Traditionally, property and architectural documentation has always been 2D.
Some large developments or iconic projects would engage a model maker to create an impressive, scaled, physical 3D model, to enable viewers to fully understand the proposal and its context. This real world model making solution continues today, but these models are extreamly expensive and delicate, and so they need to be placed in secure, set locations.
Below is a quick overview of the different types of “Reality” that are a modern replacement for the traditional model, with many benefits, such as cost and accessibility.

Virtual Reality – EXPERIENCE

Using a headset Virtual Reality [VR] enables you to experience and be emmerced  by Virtual Surroundings, using either 360 photos/videos of a real location, or computer generated 360 images or animations.

We are able to provide a range of VR Solutions, that take you from the inexpensive Google Cardboard style headset, through to full interactive and animated environments using gaming style headsets like Oculus.

Augmented Reality – UNDERSTAND

Augmented Reality [AR] is more like the traditional 3D model created for high end projects, but unlike the traditional model, anybody with a modern smart device, anywhere in the world can view it, and it is far cheaper to create.

AR is explained in detail below:

Mixed Reality – REAL WORLD

Mixed Reality [MR] combines both VR and AR, and brings them into the real world.
MR is slowly breaking into the engineering and architectural fields, it is some way short of becoming mainstream quite yet.

The idea is that you were a portable headset through which you can still see the real world, but projected upon the scene are AR and Vr models/information.

When this does become mainstream it will have a huge impact on the way we live and work, in so many ways, but this is still a few years away.

MR Headsets will be the next big thing in wearable tech.

Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality [AR] is a powerful tool in itself, and continuing developments in its implimentation are enabling us to use it in new and innovative ways.
Augmented Reality is as close to Mixed Reality as we can currently get for everyday use, as not only can it provide the full model view to give understanding, but when the model is enlarged you can be physically inside the model and get a perspective similar to Virtual Reality.

Below is a model of a product, in this instance it is a garden room, but it could be furniture, greenhouse, water  feature etc. If a picture is worth a thousand words then this AR model must be worth a million.

To view in AR please tap the AR button to the top right of the model.

Static Model

We can create a static model that anybody with a modern Apple or Android smart device can view without downloading any additsional software.

They can either view the model in an empty void, spin it around and zoom in and out,
OR
by clicking the AR botton, they can place the model into their ‘real world’ environment, as the picture above shows.
Once placed on their table they can zoom in and out, or just physically walk around it.

Interactive Model

For the Apple platform we are able to produce a file, that once again needs no additional software, that allows you to interact with it.

By clicking further information can appear, or the model can change to show different designs, different phases, or totally different models.

3D Documents

Also for the Apple platform we are able to assign an image/drawing to the AR model.
When the model sees this image/document it anchors itself to it.

This feature is brilliant for not only sales literature, but also at a public display or meeting, as this feature can be used to ensure everybody is viewing the model in the same orientation.

Augmented Reality is as close as we can currently get towards Mixed Reality for the mainstream.
It enables you to bring the virtual information into your environment and experience it in a number of different ways.

Sales Plans

From the basic 2D sales plans we are able to create a 3D Augmented Reality Model.

Generally for sales plans we produce a ‘White Model’ as standard, as colour can detract from the purpose of the model, but we are able to add a few basic colours/textures if prefered.

As well as the basic sales plans, we are able to produce more detailed AR models for a range of uses:

Full Site Plan

The AR model does not need to be restricted to a single property, it could show the whole site layout, including the terrain.

By walking around the placed model, you can get a real understanding the the layout and a feel for its design.

Building

We are able to model your property in high graphical detail, using colours and textures similar to those used in the building.

This model can then be views on the turntable as seen below, or by clicking the AR button, the model can be placed in your ‘real world environment’.

Once placed in the real world, you can enlarge it and walk around it.
This use of Augmented Reality, as you look through the virtual window onto your garden, is a great example of Mixed Reality.

Details & Infographics

From construction to engineering, we can create 3D models from your details that are accecible by scanning a QR code on your drawing or in your service manual.

If you were a builder or a boiler engineer, would life be much easier if you could sit a full size or scaled model with notes and instructions of the thing you are building or servicing, next to the place you are doing it?

This is a great tool both on site and for education, in the classroom.

The great thing is, we can also use these models to create Interactive Tours, Virtual Reality Presentations, Visualisations and Animations, etc, etc, etc…… So the cost of creating additional presentation media is greatly reduced!
